Celebrated chef, Martin Yan once developed the Yan Can International Cooking School in San Francisco and launched a network of Yan Can restaurants.
He has authored more than twenty cookbooks. He is a Master Chef, according to the American Culinary Federation.
The principal actor in the Singapore/Hong Kong movie Rice Rhapsody is Yan.
He backed and approved the creation of the World Association of Master Chefs in 2007.
He has also featured on the animated discussion program Space Ghost Coast to Coast and served as a guest judge on multiple episodes of Iron Chef America.
A Season 11 episode of Hell’s Kitchen and the Top Chef Season 10 finale both included him as a guest judge.
Despite Martin having worked with Stephen Yan in the 1980s as a product demonstration, he is unrelated to the Chinese Canadian chef Stephen Yan of the CBC Television series Wok with Yan.
Susan Yoshimura of Yuba City is Yan’s wife as of 2023. She lives with him California. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences in 1975.
