Eventually, Vergil visited the city of Fortuna, where he decided to investigate the local religious society of men and women known as the Order of the Sword. He discovered that the Order was worshipping his father like a god with great reverence.

A power greater than they ever imagined. The power of a son of Sparda. Vergil was one of the twin sons born from the demon Sparda and human Eva and is the main antagonist of Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening and a playable character in its special edition.
In his weakened condition, Vergil was defeated by Mundus, his sword Yamato being shattered by the Prince of Darkness as well. The Devil Emperor bound Vergil’s bloody and beaten body while mocking him for being a half-breed, before proclaiming he would remove Vergil’s human heart. Mundus then corrupted Vergil, turning him into Nelo Angelo.
Why did Vergil visit Fortuna?
At some point at least seventeen years prior to the events of Devil May Cry 4, Vergil visited the city of Fortuna to investigate the Order of the Sword. Upon his arrival into the city, Vergil wondered why they worship a demon like Sparda as a god.
Like his brother Dante, Vergil possesses the blood of Sparda in his veins. This makes him extremely powerful and due to how he had fully awakened his powers, Vergil was able to easily defeat Dante in their first confrontation in Devil May Cry 3 and then go toe-to-toe with Dante in their second confrontation after Dante had grown considerably stronger in his own right. However, although not going down without a challenge, Vergil was ultimately defeated by his brother in their final altercation. After Vergil’s restoration, he was once again able to fight on even terms with Dante.
Vergil was mildly amused by his son’s earnestness, and proposed fighting Nero in Dante’s place to determine the outcome of their battle. Dante, for his part, simply sat the engagement out.
Originally, Vergil was featured in four unlockable cards, with two being of Nelo Angelo, one of his human appearance, and the last being of his Devil Trigger appearance. The last two are based on his Devil May Cry 3 iteration.
In contrast to his twin brother Dante’s boisterous, outgoing, and extroverted personality, Vergil is calm, cool, collected, and introverted, constantly maintaining an aura of fearlessness. Vergil cares little for the well-being of those around him, and is unflinching in his pursuit of power; however, in spite of his cold and ruthless demeanor, he is an honorable warrior who maintains his own set of morals and disciplines. Vergil despises fighting dirty and cheap tactics and refuses to use firearms, deeming them unworthy of a “true warrior” while staying true to only his blade as well as other melee weapons he managed to obtain from defeated enemies. His code of honor still surfaces while he is corrupted as Nelo Angelo: he refuses to attack Dante from behind and waits until both are outside to begin their first fight. In Devil May Cry 5, after being restored and was attacked by his brother, Vergil refused to fight Dante when the latter was injured and tired from his last fight against Urizen, wanting to fight his brother fairly he says that defeating him in such a state has no meaning and gave his brother time to heal his wounds and get strong. He also has a tendency to speak in a very formal and somewhat antiquated manner.
In terms of apparel, Vergil commonly wears a long, silver buttoned blue coat with three separated coattails. A white, serpentine pattern runs around the collar, with a snakes head hanging over the coat’s left shoulder, and its tail slinking down the right, all the way to the bottom of the coat.
Vergil is a playable character in the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 5. His gameplay is very similar to that of his DMC4SE incarnation with the return of the Concentration mechanic, just frame Judgment Cuts and more. Rather than turn into a demon, his Devil Trigger has him summon his Doppelganger, a nod to his DmC counterpart. The Doppelganger follows Vergil’s attacks with its own Yamato attacks, and can be set to attack in three different speed settings. Vergil’s Sin Devil Trigger acts as an in-between of both the standard Devil Trigger and Dante’s Sin Devil Trigger, where it must first convert his regular DT gauge to the Sin Devil Trigger Gauge in order to activate, but also regenerates health and can be manually cancelled at any time.

What was Fortuna’s role in the Divine Comedy?
In the seventh canto of the “Inferno” in the Divine Comedy, Virgil explains the divine role of Fortuna to Dante.
Perhaps this is the reason for the anachronistic, almost medieval atmosphere within the city walls.
The city sports distinctive Renaissance architecture, and contains the “Port Caerula” ( Lat: “Blue” Port), an opera house/cathedral, and a large business district. The city sits around the true Hellgate, whose black monolith has stood for hundreds of years.
It was sealed by Sparda when he ruled the city, but was reopened by the Order using the Yamato, and eventually destroyed by Dante using the same sword. All of the native residents of the city, including children, are members of the Order of the Sword, which dictates every aspect of their lives.
The Order of the Sword possesses a palatial headquarters far from the rest of the town. The main headquarters of the Order is an immense fortress on the eastern side of the island, built above the ocean itself.
Where did Vergil go to investigate?
Vergil continued his investigation, as he went to the Fortuna Castle, the lab hidden underneath the Fortuna Castle, and even the Mitis Forest, then finally the Orders’ headquarter . Most of the boss fight are non-canon: While he was traversing in the Mitis Forest, he came in contact with the demon; Echidna.

Some time after Nelo Angelo’s defeat, his remains were used by the Order of the Sword to create the Bianco and Alto Angelos, alongside Vergil’s signature weapon Yamato had been retrieved there. Eventually, Vergil’s Yamato reacts when Nero ’s presences is approached.
Fueled by his desire to defeat his twin brother Dante along with his pursuit of power, Vergil then stabbed himself with Yamato in order to separate his human half from his demon half as well as gain power without having to be hindered by human thought or emotion. This in turn sparked the birth of ” V ” and “Urizen”.
In Devil May Cry 5, after being restored and was attacked by his brother, Vergil refused to fight Dante when the latter was injured and tired from his last fight against Urizen, saying that defeating him in such a state has no meaning and gave his brother time to heal his wounds and get strong.
Around the same time however, Sparda disappeared, leaving Eva to take care of their sons. When the twins turned eight years old, Vergil, Dante, and their mother were attacked by demons, who were sent by Mundus, the demon king of the Underworld and Sparda arch-nemesis, hoping to harm Sparda’s loved ones for revenge.
Supernatural Strength: Vergil has incredible superhuman strength, due to his demonic heritage. He possesses supernatural strength to the point where he can punch through stone with little effort and overpower demons much larger than him without much difficulty. Even in a severely weakened state, he was able to tear off Nero’s nigh-invulnerable demonic arm to regain Yamato.
