U.S. Army Special Forces in Afghanistan Nasrat Ahmad Yar GoFundMe Raises $373,000 in 2 Days.

After working a late shift as a Lyft driver in Washington, DC, the father of four and former Afghan interpreter was fatally shot.

After the Taliban took control of the country’s government in 2021, Nasrat Ahmad Yar, 31, immigrated to the US with his family. He had previously spent ten years working with US Special Forces in Afghanistan.

Shortly after midnight on July 2, Washington DC Metro Police Department officers found Yar inside his car suffering from a gunshot wound. Police said he was declared dead at a local hospital.

Yar worked as a tow truck driver and a ride-hailing app driver to support his wife and four children on his own while also sending money to family in Afghanistan.

He was overjoyed to have a new car so he could take care of his family, according to his friend Rahim Amini, who spoke with WUSA9. He refused to stay at home when his wife begged him to since he had rent to pay. I don’t have a lot of cash. I had to go to work.

His widow and their children are being supported by GoFundMe and Facebook fundraisers.

According to Tariq Ahmadzai of aid Build Tomorrow, which provides support for the Afghan community, “what we are trying to do is see what we can do for the family to help and support them” and “make sure that they feel that we stand behind them as a community,” according to NBC Washington.
