The Western community is mourning the loss of former student and TikTok star Megha Thakur.
In a statement published on Instagram, the social media star’s family confirmed that Thakur “suddenly and unexpectedly” passed away on November 24, 2022. “Megha was a confident and independent young woman.
She will be dearly missed,” the statement read. Thakur, who also went by the name of ‘Meghaminnd,’ rose to popularity for her videos which promoted self-confidence and body positivity. Since publishing her first video on TikTok in November of 2019, the 21-year-old social media influencer garnered over 928,000 followers and 3.2 million likes on the video-sharing platform. The content creator collaborated with several brands, including Aveeno, Fenty & MAC cosmetics. According to a report by the Western Gazette, Thakur studied computer science at Western University and lived in Delaware before moving to Saugeen for work. She also participated in the CAISA fashion show, a student-run charity fashion show. A funeral service was held for Thakur on Tuesday morning in Brampton, Ont.
