In Loving Memory of Theresa “Terry” Foiles: A Life of Service and Dedication
It is with heavy hearts that we remember and honor the life of Theresa “Terry” Foiles, who peacefully passed away on September 24th, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends as she succumbed to the effects of 9/11 related cancer, a solemn reminder of her heroic Rescue and Recovery efforts at Ground Zero.
Terry was born in the Bronx, New York, on September 11th, 1957, and grew up with her seven brothers and sisters in Castle Hill and later Co-Op City. She pursued her education at Aquinas High School, Manhattan College (B.S.), and LIU (M.S.). Her journey of service began at St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School in the Bronx, where she imparted knowledge to young minds for two years.
However, another calling beckoned Terry, one deeply rooted in her family’s history. Following in the footsteps of her Grandfather, Grandmother, Uncles, Cousins, and Brothers, she joined the ranks of the NYPD. Over 21 remarkable years, she climbed the ranks, achieving the positions of Detective and then Sergeant, while serving communities across the Bronx and Manhattan. Along this path, she became an integral part of various NYPD affiliated groups, including the Emerald Society, Steuben Society, and Holy Name Society, forming enduring friendships along the way.
Upon retiring from the police department, Terry’s passion for teaching led her to Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale, New York. There, she shared her knowledge, teaching History, Psychology, and Criminal Justice. Her time at Maria Regina was marked by the profound impact she had on countless young women, guiding them toward brighter futures. In return, she cherished the friendships of her colleagues, who provided unwavering support, even through her final days.
Beyond her professional life, Terry was a passionate traveler, exploring the world and creating cherished memories. Summers spent on the Cape and Long Beach Island brought her immense joy, as did her time with her extensive family and numerous friends. She had an insatiable love for reading, served as an Eucharistic Minister, and held the title of the family historian.
Terry’s legacy lives on through her seven siblings, Donald (Barbara), John (Pat), Debra (Neil), Chris (Marcy), Jimmy (Maria), Raymond (Agena), and Patricia (Michael). She also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all touched by her love and warmth.
