A collision in a work zone northwest of Lawrence on Friday morning claimed the life of a road team member for the Van Buren County.
Between 44th and 48th Avenues, on County Route 681, it took place. According to Michigan State Police, the pickup truck’s driver ran a stop sign, rear-ended another car while attempting to pass, and struck the worker who was monitoring a traffic control sign.
MSP stated that drugs are thought to be a factor, but Lt. DuWayne Robinson stated that no charges have been made.
The pickup’s 30-year-old Hartford male driver and the occupant of the other vehicle both escaped without harm.
Rene Rangel, 58, of Dowagiac was recognized as the roadworker.
Rangel was remembered by the Van Buren County Road Commission as a committed team member who “made many great accomplishments during his employment.”
