Eric Hatke’s Death & Obituary – Remembering a Community Leader
It is with heavy hearts that we reflect on the passing of Eric Hatke, the esteemed Hopewell Township Zoning Board Chairman. On September 2, 2023, in Atlantic City, NJ, Eric left us at the age of 58, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to his community.
Eric was born on May 23, 1965, in Princeton, NJ, to his parents, Fred and Judith Hatke. He embarked on his educational journey at Princeton Day School, graduating in 1983. He then pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Lafayette College in 1987. Eric’s professional career began with the US Navy, where he applied his engineering talents as a Mechanical Engineer, eventually ascending to the role of Chief Mechanical Design Engineer.
Outside of his professional life, Eric was a shining example of community involvement. His altruistic spirit led him to serve on various boards, including those of his cherished childhood swim club, Lenape, as well as the Hopewell Valley Golf Club and the Hopewell Township Zoning Board of Adjustments. Always ready to extend a helping hand, Eric devoted his time to coaching, tutoring, and mentoring those in need. He made a significant impact as a tutor at Pennington Prep.
Eric’s passions were as diverse as his talents. He found joy in activities such as golf, softball, swimming, skiing, cycling, and later in life, trap/skeet shooting. His woodworking skills were unmatched, and he delighted in crafting and building furniture during his leisure hours.
Yet, amidst his many passions and pursuits, Eric’s greatest source of joy was his two beloved children. His dedication to them knew no bounds, and he would move mountains to ensure their happiness and well-being.

We share in the sorrow of Eric Hatke’s passing, a loss felt deeply by his community, friends, and family. The obituary has been thoughtfully published by Blackwell Funeral Home, and a memorial gathering will be held in his honor on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Blackwell Memorial Home in Pennington, NJ, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The service to celebrate the life of Mr. Eric Hatke will follow, commencing at 5:00 pm and concluding at 5:30 pm at Blackwell Memorial Home. Eric will find his final resting place at Pennington Cemetery, Pennington, NJ, in a private ceremony.
