Young Dolph: Celebrated Rapper’s Life and Legacy
Memphis, TN – The Memphis Police Department took to Twitter on Wednesday to confirm the unfortunate passing of a male victim at the scene of an incident.
Renowned by his stage name, Young Dolph, Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. was born in Chicago and relocated to Memphis at the age of 2.
The world came to know him in 2016 following the launch of his debut album, “King of Memphis,” which reached No. 49 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Among the notable highlights of his career was his collaboration with O.T. Genasis on the single “Cut It,” climbing to No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. Young Dolph’s musical journey continued with six more album releases, including “Bulletproof” in 2017, “Rich Slave” in 2020, and “Dum and Dummer 2” in 2021.
A prominent figure in the Memphis community, Dolph was no stranger to adversity. In 2017, he was involved in two shootings, having previously survived a drive-by shooting in 2008.
In September 2017, the artist, widely recognized for his hit “Get Paid,” was shot multiple times outside the Lowes Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. Despite being wounded, Dolph managed to seek refuge in a nearby retail store and call 911, according to reports by USA Today. The incident left him hospitalized for several weeks. Although a suspect named Corey McClendon was arrested for attempted murder, he was later released without charges. The connection between McClendon and Yo Gotti, who had an ongoing feud with Dolph since 2014, added a layer of complexity to the case.
Dolph’s resilience was evident in other incidents too. In a previous occurrence, his SUV was targeted in Charlotte, North Carolina, sustaining dozens of bullet hits. Remarkably, the vehicle’s bulletproof build ensured Dolph’s safety.

The year 2017 was marked by further challenges, as Blac Youngsta and two others faced charges related to weapon discharges and felony conspiracy. This incident was believed to stem from an ongoing rivalry between the two rappers.
Young Dolph leaves behind a lasting legacy and is survived by his two children, Tre Tre and Aria Ella. His journey, marked by both triumphs and trials, has left an indelible mark on the music industry and his fans worldwide.
