Vince Ford, a prominent member of the Columbia community who led initiatives to enhance community health and education while also serving more than 20 years on the school board, has passed away.
His death was verified by Prisma Health, where he spent more than 25 years of employment. Ford had a 64-year-old age.
Ford previously held the position of Senior Vice President of Community Affairs at Prisma Health.
Vince was well recognized for running programs and forming partnerships that provided medical and social health care to historically underprivileged populations, according to a statement from Prisma Health. “As we continue to expand on the solid community health platform he established, his legacy will endure.
Ford attended Benedict College and grew up in Columbia.
He served as the executive director of the James R. Clark Memorial Sickle Cell Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands throughout his career. The Outstanding Student Assistance Program Award was given to his alcohol school intervention program while he served on the South Carolina Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
Ford was chosen to serve for 24 years on the Richland One School Board, including as board chair, beginning in 1992. The South Carolina School Boards Association recognized him as the Sixth Congressional District’s Outstanding School Board Member as well as an All-State School Board Member.
