The anchors of The Today Show paid tribute to the late floor director Mark Traub on December 7 after learning of his leukemia death at the age of 64.
After serving as the stage manager for 35 years, Traub formally retired from the position in 2019. Anchors Hoda Kotb, Dylan Dreyer, Savannah Guthrie, Sheinelle Jones, and Craig Melvin paid tribute to Traub.
While announcing the news, 58-year-old Kotb said that Traub was 64 years old and died of Leukemia. Kotb added that Traub was a member of the Today family. The floor director, according to her, was “the heart and soul” of the performance.
Savannah Guthrie described Traub’s work at NBC in the background. The anchor, who is 50 years old, described Traub as a “global traveler.”
Off-screen, the Today family also honored Traub. AI Roker, who is currently unable to appear on the program due to his health issues, posted on Instagram to express his sorrow. Roker shared a photo of Traub and himself.
In 2019, Traub announced his retirement and talked about how special and important Today was to him. He had claimed that for two-thirds of his life, the play had served as his residence. Traub had also mentioned his intentions to retire. He made a lighthearted remark about eventually learning how to sleep.
