Bob Barrickman, a broadcaster who was inducted into the Beaver County Hall of Fame, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 67. During his 43 years as a broadcaster, he called three Super Bowls and more than 70 state championships.
Barrickman, a member of the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2008, was the voice of Beaver County sports for more than four decades thanks to his distinctive delivery and obvious love of the game that radiated through every broadcast he did.
Beaver High School alumni Barrickman studied at Lock Haven and Slippery Rock universities before completing his degree with a communications emphasis at SRU. He was then hired by renowned Pittsburgh broadcaster Guy Junker to work at WMBA radio station in Ambridge, where he started his announcing career.
Before transferring to WBVP in Beaver Falls, where he served as the color commentator for five years under Hall of Famer Chris Shovlin, Barrickman spent seven years at WMBA. Then, in 1992, Barrickman assumed full-time play-by-play responsibilities, launching a 30-year Hall of Fame career.
Barrickman also presented weekly coaches shows and conversation shows with players in addition to his game broadcasts. He has previously written a sports column for The Times.
