Anna Marie Josephson was born by coal oil lamplight in a log cabin April 20, 1933, in Plymouth Utah.
She was the second child of Sylvan Oleen Josephson and Jeanette Williams. Anna grew up in a loving family on the family farm in Plymouth, where she learned the values of hard work, hospitality, and poise and grace, which she carried with her and displayed throughout her life.
In school she mastered the saxophone, softball, and was an excellent student, all while cheering on the student body as a cheerleader at Bear River High School.
She went off to college for several years in nearby Logan, at Utah State University, before moving to Provo to attend BYU.
Prior to graduating she took a position to work at the training division of Geneva Steel as a secretary. In Provo, she was renting a basement apartment from a widow, Bessie Peterson, and her family, which included her youngest son Stan who was attending BYU. After a while, a friendship slowly formed and they courted for 2 years.
On June 6, 1958, she married Stanley Arthur Peterson in the Logan Utah temple. After Stan graduated from BYU and following the birth of their first daughter, Lisa, they moved to Covina, California where Stan worked as a teacher and principal in the Los Angeles County School District.
There, Anna raised Lisa and her siblings that came along namely Lori, Wendy, Julie, and Mark, who were all born in California, and supported Stan in his work, continued education, and church callings. Anna filled her time with cooking, sewing, and keeping house for a large family, serving in church callings, and also found time in their early years of marriage to compete in bowling leagues.
