Gordon and Virginia Chamberlain, Craig’s parents, drove from their home in Borger to Central Texas to start looking for him.

Cameron Chamberlain, the soldier’s wife, filed a missing person’s report for her husband on May 15. Cameron’s death was confirmed by Army officials on Thursday, May 25; however, they offered no other details.

The civilian group aiding the soldier’s parents continued its search after Cameron’s death, hoping that new information might help them locate their son.

At around 5:40 p.m. on Friday, May 26, the news that Craig had been located alive was released.

Fort Cavazos investigators concluded that Craig Chamberlain “willfully absented” himself from the Army, according to the post’s officials.

Cameron Chamberlain told KWTX in her final days that her husband had a rough time throughout his time at post. The woman claimed that was a factor in a shift in her husband’s mental state.

When I first met him, he seemed like a free spirit: loving and easygoing. Cameron remarked, “He didn’t have any malice in him at all. He was a contented man. And (Fort) Cavazos and his direction did him in.”

The plot is still unfolding. New details will be added to this article as they become available.
