Michael Shipp Died In Cycling Accident, Norfolk East Coast Bicycles Owner

According to family members, East Coast Bicycles owner Michael Shipp perished in a car accident on a South Carolina highway on Thursday afternoon.

On Valentine’s Day, the 53-year-old man had his birthday.

In 1998, Shipp started the business on Colley Avenue, and he has long supported and been a friend to riders all across Hampton Roads.

The store manager and buddy Kyle Lippiatt claimed that Shipp passed away while en route to a bicycling trip outside of the city.

To be honest with you, he continued, “I still have a hard time digesting it all. It’s bizarre.”

A representative for the South Carolina Highway Patrol stated that the crash occurred on US-521 in Clarendon County on Thursday at approximately 1:50 p.m.

A cyclist who was hit from behind by a truck was later recognized as Shipp by the victim’s relatives. According to Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell, Shipp passed away at the scene, and the truck driver was treated for injuries before being sent to a hospital.

According to a message on East Coast Bicycle’s Facebook page, “[Michael] died away today while doing one of the things he loved the most – riding his bike.”
