A woman’s body was discovered in Freeburg, and a suspect is currently in arrest.

After pulling over the man who was driving the victim’s car, authorities conducted a wellness check and discovered her body.

A woman was discovered deceased by Freeburg police Wednesday night during a health check.

When police arrived around 8 p.m. on Wednesday near Deerfield Court, they found the woman dead, as reported by the Freeburg Police Department.

A Linda Waller, 55, was confirmed to be the victim by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

Belleville police said in a statement released Thursday that they had contacted Freeburg police to check on Waller after they had stopped a guy driving a vehicle in her name.

Belleville police officers on patrol noticed a silver Ford F-150 traveling down Centreville Avenue at around 7 p.m., roughly an hour before Waller was found dead. They had seen the car make an illegal turn, so they stopped him.

They tracked down the driver and found out the car wasn’t even his. The man was “very nervous,” according to the police.

He allowed the police to check his car, and when they did, they uncovered evidence suggesting he was maybe involved in a violent crime. They called the police in Freeburg to check on Waller, and they discovered her body inside the house.

Freeburg police began a murder investigation, with assistance from Belleville police. The motorist is still being held in prison while authorities look into the incident.

Belleville Police Department Assistant Chief Mark Heffernan said in a statement, “This instance is again another illustration of the threats police officers confront every day.” “An apparently routine traffic stop ended up leading to the arrest of a vicious murder suspect. Police should be applauded for their initiative in stopping this car and continuing their investigation.”
