Biography:

Melina Kanakaredes was born on April 23, 1967 in Akron, Ohio, United States. She started acting from when she was a child, performing on local theater. After high school, she attended Ohio State University, then went on to attend Point Park College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There, she became more active performing on stage. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater arts.

In 1991, she made her television debut as Eleni Andros Cooper on the soap opera Guiding Light. This played said role until 1995. She next starred on the short-lived series New York News. From 1999 to 2002, she played the lead role Dr. Sydney Hansen on the TV series Providence. She became a television staple, thanks to her role as Detective Stella Bonasera on CSI: NY.
