Mackenzie Carpenter died in accident on George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge.

A woman from southern Indiana has been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as the fatality in Saturday’s single-car collision on Clark Memorial Bridge.

21-year-old Mackenzie Carpenter was killed when the steel beam support of the bridge was struck by the vehicle she was riding in.

Dwight Mitchell, a spokesman for Louisville Metro Police, reported that the collision happened at about 2:45 p.m. According to an initial investigation, a car was headed south when the driver lost control for an unidentified cause and crashed into a steel beam support.

Carpenter was riding in the car with the driver, who suffered non-life-threatening wounds.
