The Shooting on Mulberry Court: Latest Information
Police in Coventry, working with the Medical Examiner’s Office, have concluded that Linda Beckman was killed by her husband, James Beckman, and that their two dogs also perished as a result of this domestic homicide.
To recap, on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at at 2:49 PM, James called 911 to report a shooting at 5 Mulberry Court, and the Coventry Police and Fire Departments arrived. As officers were on their way to the scene, they received a second call from a neighbor who said James had called to assure them the shooting had been an accident.
Coventry firefighters discovered Linda Beckman, 60, who had been shot and pronounced dead at the site before responding officers arrived. James Beckman, 61, was found by police with a gunshot wound that appeared to have been committed by himself.
The critically ill James Beckman was initially sent to Kent Hospital, then transferred to Rhode Island Hospital. Two of the family’s dogs were were found shot to death inside the house. The weapon used in this event, a pistol, was found nearby.
James Beckman passed away from his wounds at Rhode Island Hospital on April 16, 2023.
