Ian Somerhalder was born on December 8, 1978 in Covington, Louisiana, USA. He started his career as a model, and by the age of 17 he decided to pursue acting.
In 2000, he starred in the series Young Americans, playing the role of Hamilton Fleming. He was then cast in the film The Rules of Attraction in 2002.
He made his breakthrough in 2004 when he landed the role of Boone Carlyle in the series Lost. He then starred in films, including Pulse, The Sensation of Sign and The Tournament.
As of 2009, he plays Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries.
