The Brooks brothers, Romalice and Ro’Siah, were characterized by their parents as being inseparable, even in death.
“Despite my current state of disrepair, I have faith that things will eventually improve. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening soon “Ivy’s mother Teghan put it this way.
In an interview with ABC7, the mother described a scene that was almost too harrowing to comprehend: she had heard her children’s cries, had seen them struggle in the water, and had been unable to do anything to save them.
On Wednesday afternoon, while visiting their grandmother in Palatine, Illinois, the two boys tragically drowned after slipping into an icy pond.
According to their relatives, 4-year-old Ro’Siah and 6-year-old Romalice were more than just cousins. They looked after one another like siblings.
“I long to be among my brood again. Altercations ensued between the two parties. I can’t believe how hard they fought. Indeed, they did. Together, they, “Said Ivy.
Their mother claims that she heard her sons calling out for her from inside the house.
“I overheard them calling for their moms. Also, I went outside. I resorted to my last resort. I removed my footwear and walked barefoot onto the ice in an attempt to retrieve them. I was unable to reach them in time. When the ice broke, I went right in after them. Yes, I did my best!” Added Ivy. Waiting for them to get them out of the water seemed to take an eternity.
In spite of their mother’s cries, the boys dove under the water.
Neither of them responded when rescuers brought them up about 20 minutes later.
Police said that at 3:31 p.m., firemen in the 800 block of Panorama Drive in Palatine rescued two toddlers who had fallen into the water. Hours after being transferred to the hospitals, they both passed away.
“It seems they picked up on what we were saying. Inside the hospital, staff members did indeed pick up our voices. And there was some sort of conflict between them. Conflict erupted between them “The boys’ dad, Romalice Brooks, made that statement. “However, they spent an extraordinary amount of time submerged. About 10 to fifteen minutes were spent in there. The length of the other one was between 15 and 20 minutes.”
These parents are experiencing a level of pain that no parent should ever have to go through.
When asked about his feelings, Brooks replied, “It was a great experiment, and I am very sad that I could not accomplish that.” “All I can do is think back on all the fun moments I had with my lads. Playing around with them to see what it might be like to be the kind of dad I never had.”
The boys’ parents insisted that their lads did everything together.
Like I said before, they were the epitome of “my brother’s keeper,” as Ivy put it. They were united till the end, even in death.
Photos Ivy had taken of her sons’ Halloween pumpkin carving were shown on ABC7. Now the same pumpkins bear the kids’ handprints and footprints and rest at the feet of their bereaved parents.
“They are keeping a close eye on us. All-Seeing Ones, “To paraphrase what Ivy had to say. “I’m happy that we were able to stand by their sides. They agreed to talk to us, so we did. Apparently, they picked up on what we were saying.”
Despite the tragedy that has befallen them on Thanksgiving, they are grateful for the time and love they shared.
“I appreciate the best six and four years of my life being spent with you. I will always be grateful to you all for the lessons you’ve taught me “the woman declared.
The funeral for the boys has not yet taken place, and the family is still reeling from the Thanksgiving tragedy. For the funeral expenses, the family is holding a fundraiser. Here is the link to their GoFundMe page.o
