Tragic Loss of Easton Wilsey: Remembering a Young Life
It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the devastating loss of nine-year-old Easton Wilsey, a beloved member of the Royal community. Easton’s life was tragically cut short when he was struck by a Union Pacific freight train while attempting to cross the railroad tracks on his bicycle along North Railroad Street.
The Champaign County Coroner, Duane Northrup, has officially identified Easton Wilsey as the young soul who left us too soon. Easton was a resident of Royal, where he brought joy and laughter to those around him.
Despite the valiant efforts of first responders, Easton was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the injuries he sustained in the accident. No autopsy is planned, but it has been confirmed that Easton’s passing resulted from the injuries inflicted during the incident. At a later date, an inquest may be held to further understand the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking tragedy.
As we come to terms with this profound loss, it’s important to recognize that Easton’s passing continues to be investigated by Coroner Duane Northrup’s office and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
