Devonnia Tscheulin: Remembering an Unsung Hero of Scott County EMS

In a poignant and heartrending turn of events, Scott County EMS mourns the loss of one of its greatest unsung heroes, Deputy Director and Paramedic Devonnia Tscheulin. Chief Nick Oleck confirmed her passing on Tuesday, a day after she joyously welcomed the birth of her healthy baby boy, Maverick.

Devonnia’s legacy extended beyond her roles in the EMS field. She was the cherished wife of Maj. Michael Tscheulin, a stalwart member of the Monroe Township Fire Department. Together, they embraced the joys of parenthood, raising three beautiful children.

Chief Oleck shared the somber news on Facebook, expressing the profound impact Devonnia had on his life. As his trusted right hand for the past four years, her invaluable contributions were immeasurable. Her dedication and unwavering commitment to service have left an indelible mark on Scott County EMS.

“Devonnia, you will NEVER be replaced. Your number is forever yours and has been retired in the confines of this department. I will always cherish what we have built and succeeded in. None of it would have happened how it has without you. We will carry you with us every day,” Chief Oleck wrote, reflecting the deep bond they shared.

Her husband, Michael, later confirmed the heartbreaking news on his Facebook page. Devonnia passed away on Tuesday evening at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Following the birth of her son at Schneck Hospital in Seymour on August 14, she was airlifted to Indianapolis with her life hanging in the balance.

During her journey back to Scottsburg, Indiana State Police paid a solemn tribute, shutting down the interstate to honor her memory.
