However, before Kayce can tend to Lee’s injury, he succumbs to the wound and passes away. Lee’s death is the driving force behind much of Kayce’s early arc in the series, as he essentially takes his brother’s place on the ranch.
Jefferson White, who plays Jimmy Hurdstrom on Yellowstone, talked about how Kayce reacts to his own son being taken: The cow’s being killed was a violation of the rules. Beth being attacked was an escalation and a violation of the rules. And then Tate being taken just feels like this sort of last straw, the sort of last violation.
Fast-forward to now, and Kayce’s wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille) just made him promise that he’d not only get Tate back, but kill those responsible for taking him. Jefferson White, who plays Jimmy Hurdstrom on Yellowstone, talked about how Kayce reacts to his own son being taken:
Instead, Kayce found his son very much alive in a bathroom, although his head had been shaved. Heartbreakingly, Tate started screaming when Kayce approached him, and it took a few moments for Kayce to get through to his son that he was safe. The final shot of Tate featured him in Kayce’s arms as they headed away from the carnage.
