In Loving Memory of Carolyn Grooms: A Dedicated Member of CUA ECC
It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Carolyn Grooms, a cherished member of our CUA ECC (Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle Emergency Communications Center) family. Carolyn dedicated two decades of her life in service to our center, leaving an indelible mark on our community. She passed away suddenly in her home in Fluvanna County, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and compassion. In 2003, Carolyn Grooms joined our CUA ECC family, initially providing part-time janitorial services. Over the years, her dedication and unwavering support witnessed our center’s growth and the expansion of our 9-1-1 services. Carolyn’s commitment to her role and the public safety community was unwavering. ECC Executive Director Sonny Saxton fondly remembered, “She mentioned to me many times how proud she was to be working and serving with others in a public safety role.”
During her time with us, Carolyn didn’t merely fulfill her role; she embodied it. Her legacy is one marked by compassion, meticulousness, and pride in her work. Her hands touched every corner of our facility, ensuring that it remained a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all who entered our doors. Though her daily efforts often transpired behind the scenes, they were foundational to the work and operations of our center.
Carolyn was not only a coworker but a pillar of support, kindness, and genuine warmth to all those she worked with. She offered encouraging words, a helping hand, and an ever-present smile. She was the first person many of us encountered each day or night, greeting us with genuine care. She formed personal connections with her coworkers, evolving into a true friend to many. Carolyn was a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and daughter, in addition to being a valued colleague and friend. (She was also the center’s most ardent Dallas Cowboys fan.)
Honoring Her Legacy:
As we navigate this profound loss, let us honor Carolyn’s memory by continuing to embody the virtues of kindness, dedication, and service that she so beautifully exemplified. Her impact on our lives and our center will be remembered and cherished always.
