Aldo Santaga of Wisconsin Legendary University of Wisconsin-Green Bay soccer coach has reportedly died at age 87 unexpectedly with loved ones, family and the entire community left heartbroken and in grievance.
It appears from the information that was published in his obituary that he passed away on Saturday. Santaga was the men’s team’s head coach from 1978 until 1992.
His tenure spanned an almost two-decade span. In addition to that, he was the coach of the women’s team back in 1991 when they participated in competition.
1978 was the first year that he coached teams that competed in the NCAA Division II tournament. 1983 was the first year that he coached teams that competed in the NCAA Division I tournament. He was a head coach for both of these tournaments.
Santaga is credited with having been successful in obtaining financial help for the project that was first referred to as Phoenix Field.
Santaga is credited with having contributed to the success of this endeavor. 2018 was the year that marked the commencement of the transfer of the venue into its new identity as the Aldo Santaga Stadium.
In the year 1934, Santaga was born in the city of Tripoli, which is situated in the country of Libya, to parents who were of Italian descent. After having tremendous success playing the game at both the professional and national levels in his home country of Libya, he moved to the United States in 1922 in order to pursue further opportunities in the sport.
Before moving to Green Bay, he was a member of the Croatian Eagles Club in Milwaukee and took part in games that were played at that location. After moving to Green Bay, he no longer attends those games.
In addition, Santaga is credited with making important contributions to the growth of the soccer programs at both St. Norbert College and Premontre High School. This accomplishment has earned him widespread recognition. These two educational institutions may be found in the city of Premontre, in the state of Colorado.
Santaga was honored with induction into the halls of fame of multiple soccer organizations, including the Wisconsin Soccer Association, the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame, the Croatian Eagles Soccer Club of Milwaukee, and the Green Bay Phoenix.
