Beth Mazur, a champion for health justice and co-founder of The MEAction Network, has passed away unexpectedly. She had been battling Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for over 15 years, and her death has sent shockwaves through the New Jersey community. Beth was known for her dedication to fighting for the rights and recognition of people with multiple sclerosis (ME). The MEAction Network expressed its deepest condolences and referred to her as a “selfless beacon of hope and light” who exhibited an “unwavering commitment to the cause.”
Beth and Jennifer Brea launched #MEAction in 2014 with the intention of establishing an international network that empowers sufferers. Her contributions to the organization and the community of New England were amazing, and she devoted her entire being to campaigning for structural change and working with individuals to improve their circumstances. Her altruism and dedication were known to go unappreciated, but her love and altruism were also recognized.
RIP to Beth Mazur, an ME/CFS patient who was the co-founder of #MEAction. I got to know Beth in the early 2010’s when she began to pursue mold avoidance. We spent a good bit of time camping together out in California and I really enjoyed her company. She also was helpful to me in terms of contributing to some of my tech-related projects and always was a calming source of support for me. I don’t have any details about what happened with her but have to believe that the aggressive negligence with which the medical community has consistently dealt with this disease played at least some sort of a role. All the deaths of people with this illness are upsetting to me, but this one is particularly gut-wrenching.

Beth’s influence was far-reaching, as she was a friend, daughter, sister, and companion. She used a holistic approach to advocacy, concerned about both the big and the tiny matters. She worked relentlessly to bring attention to the difficulties faced by the ME community, motivated by a desire to assist others going through a difficult time.
