Angie Mayhew, the wife of the late Peter Mayhew has passed away.
Angie Mayhew Was a very loving and supportive wife to the Mighty Wookiee Chewbacca.
In 1999, Peter Mayhew married Mary Angelique “Angie” Luker (née Cigainero), a Texan. The couple’s home was in Boyd, Texas.
Peter became a father figure to Mary’s three kids after she married.
It was claimed that his wife would manage the Peter Mayhew Foundation.
At a ceremony in Arlington, Texas, in 2005, Mayhew was sworn in as a full citizen of the United States.
In an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, he joked that, like the final scene of “Star Wars,” in which Luke Skywalker and Han Solo receive medals but Chewbacca does not, he also did not receive one at this event. Although Chewbacca does not receive a medal in the film, Mayhew pointed out in an MTV interview that he does have the final line of dialogue when he roars.
After two years of constant wheelchair use, Mayhew underwent double knee replacement surgery in 2013 and was still heavily dependant on his chair during production of The Force Awakens.
Mayhew tweeted in July 2018 that he had undergone spinal surgery to increase his mobility, without going into specifics about the procedure.
Mayhew passed away on April 30, 2019, at his home in Boyd, Texas, three weeks before his 75th birthday. He had suffered a heart attack.
Azleland Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Reno, Parker County, Texas, is where he was laid to rest.
